Max Ernst Foundation

The Max Ernst Museum Brühl des LVR works together closely with the Stiftung Max Ernst (Max Ernst Foundation) and the Max Ernst Gesellschaft (Max Ernst Society) to ensure the conservation and expansion of its collection in the long term.

Started in 2001, the Max Ernst Foundation initially focused on gathering works by Max Ernst and establishing a Museum for his art. In addition, it supports art and culture as well as science and research. Its main partners are the City of Brühl, the Kreissparkasse Köln, and the Landschaftsverband Rheinland (Rhineland Regional Council). In 1969, the City of Brühl started a Max Ernst collection based on several works donated by the artist himself. This collection was later incorporated into the Max Ernst Foundation. The Max Ernst Museum was originally run by the Foundation. On July 1st, 2007, the LVR took over and the museum became one of the 20 museums and cultural institutions within the LVR.
