Max Ernst: Life and Work - 70 years of creativity

The Max Ernst Museum Brühl des LVR is the only museum dedicated to the life and work of the seminal artist, image poet, and cosmopolitan Max Ernst (1891–1976). The collection spans 70 years of one of the most important, versatile, and fascinating artists of the 20th century.

Numerous paintings, drawings, frottages, and collages invite visitors to immerse themselves in the fantastic worlds of Max Ernst’s imagination and demonstrate his boundless creativity. They can also look forward to see an unique collection of more than 70 bronze casts and sculptures, which derive from Max Ernst's private property, and open up his sculptural oeuvre over decades. The heart of the permanent collection is additionally formed by 36 "D-paintings", birthday and love gifts from Max Ernst to his fourth wife, the artist Dorothea Tanning.
