Nevin Aladag (*1972 in Van, Turkey, lives and works in Berlin) is one of the most internationally renowned artists of our time. With her multidisciplinary installations, performances and video works, she was represented at the Biennale di Venezia and at documenta 14. Her exhibition at the Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR in spring 2024 is dedicated to themes that also preoccupied Max Ernst as an artist, such as the question of identity, transformation and demarcation. Aladag uses different materials in her works, which she assembles in a collage-like manner.

Her sculpture series Resonator consists of objects that she has assembled from components of various stringed, wind and percussion instruments - from harp, mandolin and glockenspiel to acoustic and bass guitar, drums and didgeridoos. In their dual character as works of art and fantastic sound generators, the musical instruments seem surreal. In the series Social Fabric, the artist weaves various textiles into a utopian carpet that figuratively unites the origin of the material from different cultures.
